Ok, so yesterday turned out to be a very nice day, once I got geared up for a day of children activities instead of a day of my own hobbies. The boys suggested going to the store to buy a toy. I thought that was a great idea except that we are already over budget of our monthly spending (for our credit card time period). I told them I didn't have any money, but they could use their money to buy a toy at the
dollar store. Oh, it turned out great! They didn't need a $20 toy to be excited about. They chose their little knick knacks at the dollar store and payed with their own money they have worked for. Kyle chose three toys because he had three dollars - flarp; noisy putty that "toots" when you push it in its container (a hit in this home full of boys!), squishy lizards, and a hand squeezer thing. Jordan had one dollar so he chose the squishy lizards. I bought Tanner some play dough and I also bought the boys a killer whale puzzle. It was a hit and worth a few hours at home of quiet play time - all for the cost of $2.17 from me!

And then after the dollar store, we went to the library. It was the first successful library experience with Tanner! Before yesterday, every library visit with Tanner ended up being a can't catch me game through the aisles. Well, we had a big talk before we went in there, and he behaved for the first time! He looked for some books and found the one he wanted - one about a train, imagine that! I was so excited for him! He actually wanted to sit down on the floor and read it with me. Oh, the happiness of a mother seeing her children want to read!

It was a successful day. We did have fun together, but I was very relieved when Mike finally made it home with his Mackeral fish fillets. We had a yummy fish dinner last night, so that fishing trip did pay off a little.

aha! audra, i just found your blog, how fun. your boys are all so handsome; i don't know how you do it in that apartment with the three of them! what a trooper you are! i was just thinking how funny it is that we were in the same BYU married ward forever ago! anyway, keep up the blogging!
Glad to hear it was a successful day! It's amazing how much fun you can have without breaking the budget! (And the picture of Tanner is so cute. You can tell he took the entire experience very seriously.)
