The Hiding Place

After years of prodding from my sister to read The Hiding Place, I finally did. Most, if not all of you have probably read this book. It is a must read! For those of you who haven't read this book, it says on the back cover, "In World War II, she and her family risked their lives to help Jews escape from the Nazis, and their reward was a concentration camp...Only Corrie ten Boom survived to tell the story of how faith triumphed over evil, a story that would touch the hearts of millions." These real life characters are simply amazing. Their faith in Jesus is rock solid. It is their faith in Jesus that gets them through horrific circumstances. Again, on the back cover, it says, "But this beloved book is much more than a dramatic story. Every page shines with timelss virtues in the haven of a gentle watchmaker's shop - and tested in the horrors of Nazi Germany. For 25 years readers of this book have learned that there is no pit so deep that God's love is not deeper still." (emphasis added)

There are parts in this book that will stick with me. I will remember them in my every day life and in trying circumstances. For me, Corrie and Betsie's message was to turn to Christ. They shared this message with other ladies in the concentration camps. For some ladies in the concentration camps with Corrie and Betsie, it took major suffering for them to finally turn to Christ. They finally turned to Christ when there was no where else to turn. I want to turn to Christ in all circumstances and in all places. I want to be like Corrie and Betsie.

Audge, I'm so glad you read it! I loved this book, and I too want to be like Corrie and Betsie! They have taught me so much. I think the most impactful thing I took from this book was Corrie's example of handing her burdens over to the Lord. "Carry this, Jesus." Sometimes here in mortality it's all you can do.

I read this book for the first time over the summer. I loved it too. What I took from this book was Corrie's practical application of turning to Christ. She didn't just preach it, she lived it, and through her example shows us how to live a life dependent upon Christ.

Betsie amazed me when others were feeling concern for the victims, she was feeling concern for those being cruel. That is truly being Christ-like.
