scrappy

I am feeling scrappy again. It has been a while, over a year, since I have scrapbooked. A couple of days ago, I pulled everything out again and finished a few pages. It felt real good! It got me thinking about scrapbooks and whether they are worth the time, money, and effort. I have very limited time to devote to scrapbooking, so I have limited the scrapbooking I do. I do a baby book up to the age of 2 and then I do a two page spread for each year. It isn't that much compared to some other scrapbookers, but I guess when you have four kids with their own scrapbooks, it adds up real fast (especially when you are a slow scrapbooker like I am). Anyway, after thinking about the time and effort question, I have concluded it IS worth the time, effort, and money. I love doing it and it is a great keepsake. So I will continue.

I have also realized that I especially love doing themed scrapbooks. After seeing Mindy make a totally wonderful scrapbook for her in-laws (I absolutely loved it, Mindy!), I was inspired to try one too. Here are a few photos from the few finished scrapbooks I have made for others.

* The London Study Abroad scrapbook I made for Abbi.

I felt especially good when Abbi said that this was one of her most prized possessions when she answered one of those blog surverys.

*The Italy Trip scrapbook I made for my parents.

* The Mother's Day scrapbook I made for my mom.
All the grandkids were together for Mother's Day in May of 2006 - a special treat! I took a picture of each grandchild with my mom and did a page for each of those pictures.

I have also wondered if my boys would even appreciate the scrapbooks I make for them. I wondered that when they were babies. Now they are older and I can already see that they love looking at their scrapbooks. It is the pictures that they love, and it is the creating process that I love. So again, scrapbooking is totally worth it to me! I am glad to get back into it again.

You are doing a great work. Rach wants a scrapbook so bad. I need to start putting all of her memories together, but then I would be obligate to do it for all my kids, and I don't know if I've got the energy! Good for you for doing what you can now. You're way ahead of the game.

I am glad to hear I am not the only one who has not scrapbooked in the last year. I think you have inspired me to do a page tonight! Oh, and by the way, sorry it took me so long to track down your new email to give you and invite!

Your scrapbooks are beautiful Audra. i remember one time scrapping with you in Houston, now i wish i'd done it more! I have SO much unused paper... you have inspired me to get back to it! I have been vacillating between digital scrapbooks and the real thing, but I just love the 3D effect you get with papers, so there's benefits to both!

You have an amazing talent. I am always so envious of your eye for taking pictures. Your blog is just candy for my eyes. The scrapbooks were equally as impressive. Way to go.

YES. Your scrapbooks are historical treasures. They let those who are in the scrapbook know and feel loved and valued. They are a link to the past, YES. Your work is worth it!!!!

You are so talented. Can I hire you to do mine? I'm so impressed you are doing as much as you are.

I wish you lived closer... I need a good photographer:)

I noticed Shana hasn't commented on this one.hahaha..she's the worst at scrapbookiing. I keep telling her that it will get harder and harder to do if she leaves it for too long. I did books for my 3 kids up to the age of graduation. Then did mission books for Jared and Troy. I think they like them but they will appreciate them even more later on.
So keep scrapbooking!!!

Mom,
I was going to comment, just haven't yet. I think that there is a season and time for everything. Right now is not the time for me to scrapbook. I work and have 2 callings and I am a mom and right now just is not the time for me. My mom did it after we were grown up and in HS. So when I get some free time and I don't have kids running around at my feet then I will get into it again. Sometimes it is not a talent everyone has too... But Audra, I am envious! I love your pages. I remember the first time you showed me your scrapbooks when the twins were just babies and I remember thinking, "Wow, hers are lots better than mine!" I can't wait to get into digital scrapbooking because that is what I think I will do better at. :)

You are such a talented scrapbooker, you should not give it up! For me, I've decided I'm so much happier not feeling like I need to scrapbook. Blogging fulfills the need I feel to preserve memories. I don't miss it at all!
