advice please
I feel fairly confident in my decorating plans for my living room. I am stumped, however, on my kitchen. I am going in circles trying to figure out what to paint it. The light wood cabinets, light wood floor, and white counter tops are throwing me off. I like darker woods and marble counter tops, but right now we are not going to change them. I know the chandelier has to go and we should change our table. But let's start with the wall color. Any suggestions?

It has tons of pictures for inspiration.
Awesome, Jodie. Thanks!
Something calming, deep but subtle and not too trendy. Something you can live with for a long time. I know that tells you nothing but I just know in all the years of decorating and redecorating, if I get too trendy, I tire of it fast.
I think whatever inspires you!! What color of decorations do you have?? It is always nice to go from that.... I love red and black in a kitchen... Good luck! I am sure you will make it look gorgeous!
Here is another thought. In our condo we moved into already had one accent wall in everyroom a color which I have liked. How about you find some compatable hues and do a different color on each wall since you don't have alot of wall space. Make your ceiling white or off white depending on the colors you choose from the color palate. I just thought of that when I saw your picture of your kitchen. If we wait long enough our kitchens will be back. Ours is similar to yours and I keep thinking I want to upgrade the cabinets and countertops but then I say, I don't mind this so much. All the new homes around us have Naughty Alder with granite and mine is different and some people have even said they are getting sick of looking like everyone else.
Actually, I like your chandelier, but if you don't maybe you could spray paint it another color. Like black. A warm color on the wall would bring more color and life to the kitchen. Like Croissant yellow. You can always paint the cabinets too, for the price of a couple of gallons of paint. They have some really awesone paint these days for cabinet. Good Luck!!!!
You can even paint the counter tops but it isn't an easy job.
Just an idea.... I realized that your cabinets and floor are different wood tones that (to me) don't really harmonize with each other. Maybe that's why you are going in circles - what goes with one doesn't go with the other. I am a wood-lover, but for this I think the idea to paint the cabinets might be a good one. We will work on this more when I come!
Go to the Nesters blog. I have the link on my blog. She has a post on paint colors. I think a chocolate brown would look great in the kitchen area and then something lighter and just as warm in the eating area. The Nester did a kitchen in chocolate with similar cabinets. I painted my dining room chocolate and I love it! Paint colors are so hard to choose they always look different up. Email me if you want the exact colors and where to find them. I have 2 other neutral colors I love that would look nice too. Good Luck!
I might be a little late but we had cream linoleum in our old house with very light maple cabinets. My sister talked me into painting deep burgundy - the ralph lauren color. She said there was the slightest hue of rose in the cabinets. And she was right. The light cabinets were a great contrast to the dark color. And the dark color was broken up by the cabinets so it wasn't overwhelming. Stark contrast, gorgeous!
