What to Expect?

My placenta is low. It isn't covering the cervix, but it is very close to it. Often the placenta will move further away from the cervix as the baby grows and my uterus stretches. But if my placenta doesn't move, I will probably need a c-section. The dangers of delivering naturally when the placenta is so close to the cervix is that it might tear during the delivery and I could bleed out. It could be life threatening. Mike said that if that were to happen, I would need an emergency hysterectomy to stop the bleeding. I have a hard enough time with my bleeding with a normal delivery. After my deliveries, I am white and can't walk very far. I fainted after Kyle and Jordan's delivery when trying to walk to the bathroom. (Sidenote - Mike caught me before I hit the ground. Fun, huh! Just like the movies!:)) So anyway, I was wondering what should I expect with the recovery if I were to get a c-section? Those of you who have experienced a c-section, enlighten me!

Your sister is a friend of my sister's and I just so happened to click on to your blog... very cute boys by the way... anyway, I've had 2 c-sections and one natural birth.
There is absolutely NO DENYING that a natural birth is much easier and quicker to recover from. A c-section is extremely uncomfortable (to say the least) and very painful. However, if you can get through the first week you're doing good and after the second you are home free.
It is definitely manageable as long as you have help and don't lift anything but your new baby.
As long as you have help with your boys and are able to relax and rest, your body is an amazing thing and you just recover. It's not fun, but it is worth it. The first 5 days are very hard though.

My c-section recovery really wasn't bad! I was definately sore, but I can honestly say that it wasn't nearly as bad as I expected. I was back walking on the treadmill (very slowly mind you) a week later (don't tell the doctor:)) Anyway, I hope that it goes as well this time around! I think that it helps if you are in pretty good shape when you deliver, then your body bounces back quicker. I am sure you are in great shape, you always are. Anyway, I would definatly take a c-section over bleeding to death!

i've only had c-sections, so i can't compare it to a vaginal birth, but like chel said, it's pretty bad the first few days. you actually are glad you're in the hospital those first 2 days because you really can't do much at all and need help for basic movement. you can expect to have trouble going potty :) after your surgery, and you'll only have liquids until you can prove that your insides are moving along. your incision will hurt and feel like it's going to pop open when you cough, etc. (hey, you wanted to know!), you will have pain upon standing and walking for a good 5 days, but for me, once i'm home, i only use the pain medication for another day or two. after that, it's pretty bearable. you do have to be careful lifting and turning in your sleep, etc., and you'll need to watch your incision carefully for signs of infection.
you can handle it, though, audra. if i can do it three times (i'm a completely out of shape weakling, in case you don't remember), you can do it once, no prob. it's always better to be safe than sorry, that's why i chose to have my second by c-section. i was so afraid of having bleeding and/or a hysterectomy at the age of 26. so you're obviously very smart to be considering this and preparing for it so early.

I hope your placenta moves up - I have a friend who was in the same situation, and it moved up.
The first C section is the easiest, so I think you'd handle it fine. There are some advantages to it, like no labor! Just make an appt, and two hours later, here comes baby! But the recovery is painful and slow, and I was on heavy painkillers for 1-2 weeks afterwards. Make sure you have lots of help if you end up having a c section! My MIL would come down for at least a month for me, and it was sooo appreciated.

Reading everyone elses c-section stories makes me think I must have been the lucky one! Maybe I just blocked out the bad parts! That makes me nervous for the upcoming one - hopefully it will be as good as it was with Lance.

They told me the same thing... placenta previa. But like my Dr said, most of them resolve on there own. And mine did too. I was kind of getting worried about a potential c-section. (though those who have had them say they like them.) There's a good chance it will resolve on it's own!

I have had 2 C-Sections. My first was after 12 hours of hard labor, so the recovery was a little rough. My second was a scheduled one and the recovery was much, much nicer. It really isn't that bad. I have had friends who have done it vaginally and have had a C-section, who say they rather the C-section. Go figure! I am sure it depends on the person, too. I don't know anything else but C-sections so I can't speak for vaginal births, but it really isn't that bad. Just make sure you get help with your other boys. That will be huge! Take atleast one nap a day the first week. That helps you heal quicker. Good luck. I am sorry you are faced with this situation. I hope your placenta moves up! My thinking is just get the baby safely into this world, and if I have to suffer a little more than usual, it is SOOOO worth it, don't you think?!!!

I have only had c-sections, and am sure they are different for everyone, but very doable, and a way better option than putting your life in danger. I have heard both stories - some who prefer one or the other. Whatever happens, just relax and enjoy your new baby and you will be fine.
