I often forget how woman are treated in other cultures and other countries. I forget that in many areas, woman are still considered second class citizens with less rights and privileges than men. I forget that in many cultures it is considered acceptable to beat, abuse, or circumcise a woman. My heart goes out to these woman who are surrounded by men that are so completely wrong in their beliefs and values. These men will one day be punished for their actions and realize the error of their ways. I am very grateful that I am surrounded by men that respect, nurture, protect, value, and love the women in their family. I can't imagine a group of men more respectable than my fathers, husband, and brothers. Again, I am a lucky woman. No, I am a blessed woman.

such a beautiful post, audra. thanks for the reminder. i think about this all the time. mostly about all the poor women who have to go work in a field with their baby strapped to their back just so they can feed their other 5 kids. whose fathers they probably don't even know because their village was invaded or something. we are tremendously blessed.
OH YES!! We are blessed!!! What cute pictures and what wonderful men!
It's hard to believe other woman in some places have it so rough. But on the plus side (not a very big plus, but at least it's there) I've heard of special holidays for these woman where for the whole day the men have to parade down the streets and the women beat them! It's not justice by far, but I guess it's a start.
Thank goodness for the gospel which teaches the importance of women and the equality and necessity of both men and women! Thank you for pointing this out!
You need to put up a picture of Mike too! Great post Audra - I just finished Reading Lolita in Tehran, and I've been thinking the same things. We are so blessed to live in a just country, with the opportunities and freedom given to women unlike any other. We don't have these incorrect and evil traditions to be subjected to. We have so much light and knowledge - and best of all, the gospel! How blessed can we be??? It's breathtaking.
Oh, wait, Mike is up there! Guess I just skimmed over him - sorry!
We are truly blessed with the wonderful men in our lives. How thankful I am. Loved looking at the great pictures.
I totally agree and have often felt so blessed by the kind of men that surround me! Especially when so many peoples views about men and women are so warped and it is very sad.
